Why you need a “Stop Doing List” Right Now

I always emphasize the fact that making an effective to-do list is very important to achieve our goals.


While a to-do list is a list of tasks that you plan on doing that day, you may also need a ‘stop doing list’.


We all have so many tasks to be completed in a day. When we live in a house there are many things we should take care of. When we are studying in school or college, our to-do list seems to be never-ending. That is the same case when we are working a 9-5 or running a business.


We all are too into the things we must be doing today and the day after that we don’t have enough time to stop and think about one thing, and that is what should we stop doing in order to be a better person, to achieve our goals faster or to make this planet a better one than it was when we arrived here.




We are so into progress and perfection that we hardly stop and analyze the path we walked before just to identify if there is anything to be changed or avoided. While working hard at present to make our future a better one is a very good thing to do, there are n-number of things one can learn from the past. We should not dwell in the past thinking about all the heartbreaks that happened to us. But our past and the mistakes and experience we have with it is very important. Our past is the best teacher we can get and our life always teaches us daily like no one else.


As rightly said by Patti Singh, "Sometimes our stop-doing list needs to be bigger than our to-do list." We need to pause from this rat race and make a list of things we need to stop doing to have a better future and achieve our goals faster.

A stop-doing list helps you cut down the bad habits that are preventing you from achieving your goals.


A stop-doing list can be of anything, it can be work-related, it can be personal development related or it can also be environment-related.


We all have bad habits and we need to cut them one by one to become a better person. We may not even realize how many bad habits we have or the effect it has in our growth. So today spend some time making a stop-doing list for you. It will surprise you with how many things you need to stop doing.


When you make a list there might be many things you aim to stop doing right now. But make sure to start with the most important one, the one that will take you closer to your dream life if you stop doing it. Make your list manageable and more realistic.


We all can’t stop doing various things at a single try. So always keep your list manageable and aim at one and then slowly include the next one.


First, just write down everything you think you need to stop doing to have a better life. Don’t worry if the list is too long, we all are humans and no one is perfect. Now instead of being hard on yourself try taking it on a positive note.

Give yourself credit for coming up with this list. Now just pick one thing you need to work on right now and make an effort to stop doing that.

With all the negative things you have listed down, write how you want to bring the change and write a positive affirmation near it. This will remind you of your worth and it will motivate you to do things.
