What can you do when you have a bad day and how to bounce back with hope?
Whether you slept on the wrong side of the bed & woke up with bad pain or when you see an Instagram influencer chilling at your favorite vacation spot and you are swamped with tasks, or when you are just having a string of small bad moments throughout the day, whatever it may be dealing with a bad day is no fun and it’s very hard.
Suddenly everything around you would become bitter and boring. The moment you realize you are having a bad day, everything that happens will have a connection with the bad day vibe, and let’s be honest nobody likes staying in that vibe.
But dealing with a bad day need not be hard anymore I have curated 5 things that I personally follow when I have a bad day and I am sharing them with you in the hopes that it might help you.
If you have been following me for a while and have been checking my stories on Instagram, I think you would know that,
I broke my Macbook Air display and have to spend a fortune on it.
A monkey came to the kitchen through the balcony and I had to clean the mess up.
I felt so bad and guilt was consuming me.
I have never shared a lot of my negative side on Instagram because I usually keep things to myself and I don’t like making others feel bad for no reason at all.
But this time I wanted to share this so you understand no one’s life is always good, things happen and we have to deal with it. I am also sharing this to make you feel comfortable, that everybody has bad days and without these bad days our good days won’t be too good.
So when I uploaded all these stories, many of you were so kind sending your love and positive vibes. I feel eternally grateful for having you guys in my life.
A few of you also asked me these questions - “Abi, thanks for sharing these problems too, I think things are not going too well for you right now, so during these times how do you manage or cope?”
That’s when I realized that people are looking for answers to handle their bad days so it becomes manageable and when we get to see what others do and how they cope, we may also get some inspiration from them.
So here is my answer to you all,
There are many ways to cope with a bad day or a bad phase. I am going to share the 5 things I do personally.
Acknowledge it’s a bad phase or bad day - Right, the first step got to be to acknowledge the fact that you had a bad day and it’s pretty common. Blaming yourself or the situation is fine for the first few minutes, but kindly stop it after a few hours. So, the first thing I did was to understand that am having a bad day and this too shall pass.
I asked myself, can I change it, was the situation under my control, was it my mistake, and I try answering them honestly. After I do this, I feel a lot more light, and reflecting on a bad day will give us a chance to understand that situation might not have been under our control or it was a mistake, and learning and moving is the only thing to do.
2. Stop worrying after a while - Trust me, I was feeling horrible and I blamed myself for being so stupid and breaking my Mac, and I was just not able to get out of that phase. The second day was that monkey thing and it put me down so bad. After about three days of constant worrying, I just stopped repeating this to myself - “I can sit for 3 more days and worry and waste my time which is not going to solve the problem or make me feel good, or I can try diverting my mind keeping myself busy with tasks.” Obviously, I choose the latter and you should too.
3. Do something you love - I wanted to just forget about all this mess and so I took out my mandala coloring book and I started coloring my worries away. I liked the fact that I can just forget about this world and enter the color-filled mandala world. Now if you like reading, take a book and start reading. It can be anything but doing something that you love.
4. Binge-watch on Netflix - When things go haywire I go to the series I watched to feel comfortable. I restarted Gilmore Girls on Netflix and I just love Stars Hollow so much that I am writing this post from Luke’s diner. (Of course, I am imagining, but isn’t it nice to visit the places you loved once in a while even if they are fictional?)
5. Keep yourself busy - And here comes the important point that will help you transition from this phase to a new phase. Start working on a task and concentrate on it. Keep yourself so busy and work like your life depends on it. This will help you forget the bad moments for a while and once you get into focus mode, you will forget them eventually and feel happy about the progress you just made.
Now, these are the 5 things I would do when I have a bad day.
These are so simple yet effective ways to deal with your bad days and they have worked wonders for me. I even recorded a video of things that I do in the hopes that it might motivate you. Watch and let me know if it helps.
