PAUSE, REVIEW, REFLECT, REALIGN & REFOCUS: Mid Year Reset Journaling Prompts

I am sure, this is the 100th time you are seeing this statement, ‘Can you believe 6 months have passed by and we are already in July 2024?’. 😅

I am probably one of those people from whose IG stories or newsletter you might have seen this statement as well. Let me be honest, as I am writing this blog, I still am not able to wrap my head around the fact that it has been 6 bloody months. 😲 I hardly remember what happened in January, then I fell asleep with all hard hitting lessons from the Universe, I wake up, and you say we are in July 2024? ❓

How on earth am I supposed to digest this piece of information? 😕

I am sure that’s how you must also be feeling right now. If you are not feeling that way, then OMG God bless your soul, you are saved. 😆 Okay, jokes later.

You see, one fact is crystal clear among all these rants. THE YEAR and THE TIME IS RUNNING SUPER FASTTTT. ⏩🚄

If we don’t pause for a while now, we’ll all be celebrating Christmas and Diwali soon and find ourselves wishing, Happy New Year 2025 🧨 all the more confused as if we just woke up from a tiring coma.

Now, let’s take the wise route shall we? We don’t want to feel hungover without even drinking a drop of alcohol. I am sure I don’t want to feel that way. I am pretty sure, if you are reading this blog, you don’t want that either.

So, what’s the solution? 🤔

Bang 💣💥

Enters - Mid-Year Reset 😃

(Not me singing, baby you’re a firework, while writing this and losing track of time. 😛)

Why Reset?

Imagine setting sail on a grand voyage without ever checking your compass. 🧭 As the months drift by, it’s easy to veer off course, losing sight of our initial intentions. A mid-year reset serves as a celestial checkpoint, allowing us to:

  • Reflect on Accomplishments: Celebrate your wins, big or small. Each milestone is a stepping stone toward your ultimate vision.

  • Reevaluate Goals: Are your aspirations still aligned with your true desires? Life evolves, and so should your goals. Don’t even think twice about scratching off a goal if it is not aligned with your current and future self.

  • Realign Priorities: Ensure your daily actions are in harmony with your long-term objectives. It’s time to weed out distractions and cultivate focus.

The Significance of a Mid-Year Reset:

The magic of a mid-year reset lies in its timing. As the year reaches mid year, we are granted a moment of equilibrium—halfway between the past and the future. This balance offers a unique perspective, enabling us to:

  • 😄 Gain Clarity: Amidst the chaos of daily life, clarity can be elusive. A reset provides the mental space to see the bigger picture.

  • 😇 Renew Motivation: Reconnect with your ‘why’ and reignite the passion that fueled your journey at the beginning of the year.

  • 🧑‍💻Adjust Course: Like a master navigator, you can tweak your path to ensure smoother sailing in the months ahead.

Harnessing the Power of Journal Prompts:

During our recent mid-year reset journaling workshop, participants embarked on a transformative journey through the power of introspective prompts. The feedback was phenomenal—participants reported newfound clarity and a deep sense of purpose. Now, it’s your turn to experience this magic. I am sharing all the prompts that I used during this session with the hope that you might gain some much-needed clarity in your life.

There are going to be quite a few prompts but if you can dedicate one-hour for this activity, then I am pretty sure and confident that you will find yourself more clear and highly motivated for the next two quarters. 😃

If you’re craving this feeling, then dive in. 👇

  • What are you grateful for in the past 6 months?

  • Write down a highlight for each month of the 2 quarters, and write one major gratitude note for that month.

  • Reflect on three moments from the past six months where you felt completely present and engaged. What were you doing, and how can you incorporate more of these moments into your daily life?

  • What was your expectation for this year? How has it changed compared to January 2024?

  • What’s your current outlook for the next 6 months? Why do you feel this way?

  • What were the major goals you wanted to accomplish during the start of this year? How far are you in achieving them? Has anything about these goals/habits changed for you in recent days?

  • What is the kind of person you envisioned to be at this year's end? How far are you from becoming that version of yourself? What one action step do you need to take to get closer to this version of yourself?

  • Which areas of your life changed the most over the past 6 months?

  • Describe any unexpected opportunities or blessings that you’ve experienced in the past 6 months.

  • Were your actions aligned with your values and intentions?

  • Reflect on your daily routines and habits. Which habits support your goals and well-being, and which ones detract from them?

  • Identify one habit you successfully implemented or changed this year. What motivated you to start or modify this habit, and what have you learned from the experience?

  • Think about a habit you've struggled to maintain. What obstacles have you encountered, and how can you adjust your approach to overcome these challenges?

  • Identify three strengths or skills you've developed or utilized significantly this year. How have these strengths contributed to your achievements, and how can you leverage them further in the remainder of the year?

  • Think about a challenge or setback you faced recently. How did you navigate through it, and what did you learn about yourself in the process? How can you apply this newfound knowledge moving forward?

  • Reflect on how your perspective on gratitude has evolved this year. What are three things you've become more grateful for recently, and how has practicing gratitude impacted your daily life?

  • Assess your work-life balance over the past six months. How have you been prioritizing self-care and personal time amidst your professional responsibilities? What adjustments can you make to achieve a healthier balance in the second half of the year?

  • Reflect on activities or tasks that drain your energy versus those that replenish it. How can you adjust your schedule to prioritize activities that energize you more often?

  • Consider the impact you want to make in your professional or personal life. What actions can you take now to move closer to leaving a meaningful legacy by the end of the year?

  • Identify a skill or area of knowledge you've developed or improved upon this year. How has this growth impacted your professional journey, and how do you plan to continue expanding your expertise?

  • Think about a community or support network that has been valuable to you this year. How have these connections contributed to your growth, and how can you give back or engage more actively within this community?

  • Reflect on your relationship with technology and screen time over the past months. Are there adjustments you can make to create healthier boundaries and enhance your productivity or well-being?

  • Reflect on instances where you've had to set boundaries in your personal or professional life. How have these boundaries supported your well-being and effectiveness, and are there areas where you need to reinforce or adjust them?

  • Explore a creative block or challenge you've encountered. How can you tap into your creativity to find innovative solutions or approaches to overcome this obstacle?

  • Consider investments you've made in your personal or professional development this year. What investments have yielded the greatest returns, and where can you allocate resources for further growth?

  • Reflect on a recent moment when you felt truly cared for. What were you doing, and how can you incorporate more of these activities into your routine?

  • List five self-care activities that currently rejuvenate you. How regularly do you engage in each? Are there any you could enhance or expand upon?

  • Take a moment to celebrate significant milestones or achievements from the past six months, big or small. What lessons have you learned from these successes, and how can you build upon them in the months ahead?

  • Reflect on expanding your gratitude practice beyond personal achievements. How can you express gratitude to others who have supported or inspired you on your journey?

So, how can you use these journal prompts effectively?

  1. Set the Scene: Find a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed. Light a candle, play some soothing music, and create an atmosphere of tranquility.

  2. Use the Journal with me Videos: If you find it hard to focus for an hour, then turn off your mobile, and start playing journal-with-me or study-with-me videos. You can play them on your laptop and start journaling.

  3. Be Honest: This is your sacred space. Allow yourself to be vulnerable and truthful in your reflections.

  4. Take Your Time: There’s no rush. Savor each question and let your thoughts flow freely.

  5. Reflect and Act: Use your insights to make tangible changes. What small shifts can you implement immediately? What larger goals require a strategic plan?

What next, after Journaling?

Once you’ve finished journaling, as much as you may have gained clarity, you need to start acting on them to keep the momentum flowing. Here are a few tips and activities that may help you keep the motivation and momentum active:

  1. Clean your workspace, kitchen, bedroom etc. Just set a timer for 30-minutes, play some music or old songs you like, start vibing and get it done. You will not only enjoy the process, you will also get things done.

  2. Try to spend another 20-minutes to clear out the digital clutter like clearing out emails, old pics, 1 pose in 30 pics. Delete them all, you don’t need them.

  3. Pick the priority goal and start mapping out the steps you will take in order to achieve them. Write down everything and highlight the first three steps you need to take.

  4. Do something fun that makes you happy. It can be painting, cooking, journaling, sleeping, eating. Literally anything. Your choice. 🙂

  5. You can also spend a few minutes collecting images of the goals you have set and make a quick vision board using canva. You can store it digitally as your device wallpaper or take a print out and stick it in your workspace for that extra dose of motivation and high energy.

  6. Do a quick routine reset, don’t overdo it, keep it simple so you can actually make it work.

Engage with Your Journey:

As you embark on your mid-year reset, I invite you to ponder: What truths are you ready to uncover? What dreams are you poised to chase? The answers lie within, waiting to be discovered.

So, grab your journal and let the adventure begin.

May your mid-year reset be a journey of rediscovery, reimagination, and realignment. Embrace the mystery, and unlock the magic within.

Happy journaling, dear friends.

Until our next cosmic rendezvous! ✨

Signing off,

Abinaya S.
