Live extra lives by doing this - My reading journey
There can be no better habit than reading books.
I didn’t always love the habit of reading books. Until high school, the only books I read were subject books. As a kid, I was never exposed to a lot of books in my life. Maybe that’s the major reason.
But even if I was exposed to books, am not so sure if I would have fallen for this amazing habit. From childhood, we’re bombarded with so many books to read, write and practice. Only later did I realize all this pressure was only to prepare me for the upcoming 6th std and board exams.
Adulthood is altogether a different ball game. That’s a topic to discuss some other time.
Luckily my parents never actually forced me to read but unfortunately, I was into this game just like every other child. So, owing to that much reading I don’t think I would have fallen in love with the habit of taking one more book to read as a hobby or for entertainment.
So when did I start reading actually?
Well, fast forward to my UG days my BFF used to bring this book with her every day and she reads it during class. I could find her reading the book even when she was having her lunch and during breaks.
That’s when I wanted to know what’s so interesting to read missing all the breaks and fun time with friends.
So, I asked her what she is reading and she got very excited. She told me about the story and I was now hooked too. But not fully until I started reading the first few pages.
Then I borrowed the book from her and could not keep it down. Traveling back home on a local train from college, I used to sit and read. I didn’t know I could imagine such amazing things and worlds without actually seeing them.
But unfortunately, we had our semester exams around the corner and I never did get to finish this book.
But now I am a person who got a fine taste in reading books. So I always wanted to start reading the exact book that revealed my love for reading.
My PG days got, even more, busier than I imagined them to be. Shifting to a new state and hostel, living alone, loads of studying and I never got time for the habit of reading books.
But it was only when I landed my first job, I made time to finally start with the habit. I ordered the books from Amazon and oh yeah, by the time I came to it the author had finished his Trilogy and I got the first two books.
I read them like there was no tomorrow and loved every single minute spent reading it. So, I finished the first two books of the trilogy and ordered the next one and am still ordering and reading books.
I fell for it right there when I read about Shiva, Sati, their love, the city of Meluha, and much more.
Yes, the first book I fell in love with and still am with is ‘The Immortals of Meluha’ a Shiva Trilogy by Amish Tripathi.
So I started with this one book and this is what my mini-library looks like now.
Looking forward to reading more books and growing.
You see the title of this blog says - Live multiple life following this one habit.
Well, this is it. When you read a book, you don’t just read it you experience the character's life, love, pain, emotions, lessons, and much more.
So by that, every time you pick and read a new book, you pick a new character and life from a wardrobe, live it, and start afresh.
How cool is that? Pretty cool right? I know!
The main purpose behind this blog post is to share my experience so that even one of you might be motivated or tempted even to start reading a book.
If you did, then well what are you waiting for, go get a book and start reading.
I will meet you next Wednesday with yet another interesting blog,
Until then,
Signing off,
Abinaya :)
