How I managed to be Sane in this Insanity – My Covid Story

We all hopped into 2021 with the slightest of hope that things might at least start getting back to normal, but we are hit by such a huge storm of bad news every day. This negativity is not only within us but around us which is swallowing us as a whole person.

Our routines and plans got completely shattered before we can even digest what is happening around us. I was completely lost from April 12th to the Midweek of May as me my mom and dad were down with Covid. The fight was definitely not easy, it still is not, the recovery is slow, but we are managing and finding ways to cope up with it.

As I am an Asthma patient, things were not easy for me. It all started with a sore throat and in two days I lost the sensation of taste and smell. My mother experienced the same symptoms with fever and we went for a checkup, took CT Scan instead of RT-PCR test and we got the results immediately. As we were positive, we immediately went to a Pulmonologist we know and he advised 14 days of home quarantine.

I had my plans ready for the new month and was working on my online course on Productivity. But due to all this, I was not able to manage things well. This hurt me a lot, but I immediately realized that I have to take care of my body instead of worrying and decided to take complete rest for the next 2 weeks. Well as a curious person it is not easy to sit without doing anything, so I thought of just completing a few online courses that was pending. But I must tell, this COVID is not normal viral fever. It sucks the last bit of energy our body has and I had was sleeping all day and at night times facing breathing difficulties. Watching news was not at all an option as I wasn’t able to handle one more bad news. So I thought of diverting my mind by doing something.

So if you are struggling too, and lagging behind in any way, please my dear friend, don't blame yourself. You are not responsible for this pandemic but you can take responsibility for your mental and physical health.

I did a few things that helped me to stay sane in this whole lot of insanity around me. So, I wanted to share those with you so you might find it helpful. Here are the things I did when I was down with Covid.

1. Mandala Painting

Mandala painting helped me completely forget what was happening around me and I was able to focus on the colors and patterns. It felt relaxing and I enjoyed it very much.

2. Reading my favorite books

For past two months I haven’t been reading any fiction books as I was too much indulged in reading non-fiction books. But this was the time for me to utilize and read my favorite fiction books. So I ordered a few books including ‘Sita – The Warrior of Mithila’ by Amish Tripathi. It was an amazing read as always by this author.

3. Digital detox

As I had no energy to do anything, I was having a digital detox at this time. I was not able to even watch any shows on Netflix let alone scroll through social media.

4. Eating healthy home cooked food

Though we three were affected, we had no choice but to cook food. So, we helped each other in little ways and cooked healthy meals and ate. When affected by this virus, our body demands rest and food like anything. Though I didn’t have sense of taste or smell, I ate healthy food which helped.

5. Drinking a lot of fluids

Apart from drinking more water, we also should drink juice and soups. So preparing some juice, healthy veggie and spinach soup really helped in getting some strength.

6. Breathing exercises

Whenever oxygen level dropped, I did some breathing exercises my friends shared with me. It really helped a lot. Apart from that after waking up we must do these exercises. Sleeping in a room with proper ventilation is very important.

7. Gratitude Journaling (OMG I am grateful to so many things now)

I was not able to write daily, but whenever I could, I wrote about the things I was grateful for. When I was seeing my friend’s stories asking for ICU beds and all, I was completely lost. We were not at that stage and forever grateful for that.

8. Spending time with my mom and dad

As we three were affected, this was a nice time to stay together and spend some time. Since we were not able to do much, we enjoyed talking about our favorite childhood memories, how I used to attack my brother and how he used to beat me, how I broke the bathroom door throwing a stool at him, all these conversations made us smile and laugh at times. This positivity was much needed.

9. Good sleeping routine

Well to be honest, sleeping was the only thing I did all day. It was not a routine, even if we want to wake up to eat something, I didn’t have the energy and used to sleep on the other side of the bed.

10. Staying away from news

No matter how much we prayed, we got calls from relatives and distant relatives with someone affected by this virus or dead. This shattered me and the least I could do to stay away from this insanity was to stop watching news. Staying from all that positivity really helped.

We are still not back to our 100% normal state but we are heading there. We are so thankful to all the lovely wishes and prayers we got throughout this tough journey and for the family support who provided with healthy food at times. Most of them who suffered didn’t have this privilege. I am forever grateful that we had all that one could ever want.

If you lost your friend or a family friend, I am very sorry my friend that you had to go through this. My heart goes out for you and I am sending prayers and healing vibes your way.

If you have read this far, I kindly ask you to spend a minute to pray for the souls who are suffering right now, send them healing vibes, pray for this pandemic to end, pray for the families to find strength who have lost their family member.

This is a tough phase but we are all in this together. Let’s take care of each other and support each other.

Meet you next week with another interesting blog,

Until then,

Stay Home, Stay Safe, Take Care.
