7 Life Lessons I Learned During The Pandemic

We are currently in the middle of a Pandemic and things are slowly getting back to normal, at least we believe they will. The pandemic hit us all without any signs of a warring message and completely shook us and broke many of us. One cannot deny the fact that the Pandemic upended our lives. This was one great learning and everyone on this planet earth was given an opportunity to experience certain things and learn from them. Don’t you agree?

Well, I learned a lot of things and took some important life-altering decisions and I am completely happy with them, guess why, I had the time to think through my decisions. I was not stuck in traffic or somewhere I don’t want to be like in my workplace, when I was at home I was able to battle through my own thoughts and come up with answers for them.

Before we begin with the lessons I learned, I want to say ‘Thank you’ to all my subscribers and readers. I wasn’t able to upload many articles as I planned to because my whole family was affected by corona and it was definitely not easy to take it. After that my health started deteriorating and I had to undergo surgery for many reasons. But when I look back am just happy; things happened in their own way so now I can slowly start taking care of my health and getting back my lost past couple of years. Thank you so much for your patience. Now let’s straight away jump into the blog.

Though I had multiple pain points and tough times during this pandemic, I simply just can’t deny the fact that I learned a lot of valuable lessons and in today’s blog, I am going to share 7 lessons I learned during the pandemic.

All these lessons are not directly linked with the pandemic like wearing masks is important, wash your hands, etc., These are my personal life experiences.

1. Health is wealth

Our health is our greatest wealth and we all realized this phrase more during the pandemic. We may have material wealth and power but if we don’t have health, everything else doesn’t really matter. It becomes our prime responsibility to take care of our health. During the beginning of the pandemic, we had a lot of time with us, which most of us used to spend qualitatively, like enjoying our time with family or trying new home-cooked meals and enjoying it and so on.

But once the period extended and work from home pressure increased, most of us started ordering junk food. We preferred junk and easy meals to simple and home-cooked ones. Well, from now on we can learn from the lesson and try to make home-cooked food. There is nothing like a simple meal. You don’t have to do pilates or one hour of gym sessions. I personally don’t like and believe in them, if we want to take care of our body, the first few steps should be easy. Instead of setting a goal to workout for an hour, start by 10 minute home workout.

When you realize that you have to work out for 10 minutes, this seems doable and our mind gets excited to take action when compared to one hour in the gym. That is a long time and we will start to procrastinate as usual.

If cooking takes a lot of your time, then try meal planning and meal prepping. They will definitely help, you don’t have to waste hours thinking about what to cook for dinner tonight, you have the plan and groceries ready with you, you just have to cook and enjoy a delicious meal.

2. Have a creative outlet

After our 9-5 we all need something fun and exciting to do. Learning a new skill will help us focus on the task at hand instead of worrying about the 9-5 or about some gossips we heard from colleagues. When we give time to gossip and we are wasting our time and not getting anything at the end of the day.

Having a creative outlet will help us re-discover our feelings, our hidden talent and we might enjoy the whole process. This can be anything from learning and investing in the stock market to starting a side business or a side hustle or learning new techniques that will help us get promotions in our office. It can be anything, but the matter is, we must be creatively engaged in that for some time after work, so we are not bored and fed-up at the end of the day.

My creative outlet is investing in online courses and learning from them. What's yours?

3. A hobby that will enhance our lives

We all had hobbies and playtime when we were kids, but after we became adults, we just lost touch with our hobbies and we became the 'Jack with all work and no play'. If you really spend some time thinking, you will understand that a hobby is what helps us to stay alive, to enjoy our lives.

Be it painting, dancing, singing, swimming, gardening, cooking, golfing, it can be anything but it is the only thing we would look up to after a long day at work. So if you have not spent your time recently with a hobby, take this as a reminder and start working.

No matter how busy you are, just spend at least an hour to 30 minutes doing something you love, and you will notice a positive difference in yourself. You will feel like, being more alive and will start loving your life.

4. You can’t make everyone happy

We often lose ourselves trying to please someone else. As much as we love the fact of pleasing everyone, we are not aware of the harm we are doing for ourselves. We tend to do things that will make others happy, even if they don't bring happiness to us. I started realizing there is no way one can please everyone and there is no need to do that.

No matter what you do, there will always be someone who will judge you and your decisions. What we can try is to not cause any harm and not to hurt others. But hurting ourselves in the process of pleasing others is the biggest mistake we are committing against ourselves and we must avoid it at any cost.

As a wise man once said, I can’t give you the sure cut formula for success, but the sure cut formula for failure is - Try to please everybody all the time, and I can’t agree more.

5. Making mistakes are proof that you are growing

We are so afraid of mistakes, we want to and plan to avoid them at all costs. What we don’t realize is that mistakes are the stepping stones to learning and perfecting any art, just like failures are stepping stones to success.

When you feel bad for making a mistake during your learning process, your learnings stop right there. You are so paranoid that you will make another mistake and that stops you from taking action of any kind. But what happens when we don’t take action? Well, we stop learning and implementing things, and our knowledge becomes stagnant.

How will a child learn to walk if she doesn’t get up each and every time she falls? So next time you worry about making mistakes, remember this; making mistakes knowingly is wrong, but making mistakes while learning or implementing something is not wrong, it is actually the learning process.

6. Gratitude is a way to a better life

Gratitude is a way we acknowledge the goodness of others and in our life. It instantly emits a ray of positivity and hope in us, and also lets us to be thankful for all our blessings.

Without gratitude, we will often forget what we have and forget to count our blessings. The human mind always wanders with a desire to want something in our life. We often connect happiness with something materialistic. If we say, I will be happy when I get this, when I live in a bigger house, when I earn a lot of money, we are considering happiness to be a destination.

But is our life a destination? It is more of a journey than a destination. It becomes our responsibility to find happiness in little things in our lives to live a peaceful life, else we will be filled with regrets, and regret is not something we want to experience after so many years of living.

So, make it a habit to thank people and the small things you have in your life. If it becomes difficult, then try to get a small diary and name it ‘Gratitude Journal’ and start writing three things you are grateful for on that day. You will slowly start loving the process and your life.

7. Having faith helps us stay sane

Faith is like an anchor for the hearts stuck at some past experience. Without faith in some form or some God, we can never live. We need to trust and have faith first in ourselves and in Almighty. If you are an atheist, you should believe and at least trust in nature.

Because without faith, we are nothing. When we can’t trust another human or ourselves, things become difficult. We also attract good things because we strongly believe that we deserve it or we are worthy of it. Similarly, when we believe bad things might happen to us, they do. So faith plays an important role in our lives and we must be aware of where our faith resides.

According to me, having faith in ourselves is equally important as to having faith in God. When we have faith only in God, then we start expecting things to heal on their own, and we want an easy and happy life. But that is hardly the case.

When we believe in ourselves and in the Almighty, we get the strength to do and try anything. We will be strong enough and brave to try new things knowing no matter what happens, God is with me, even if I get a problem, I will get a solution along with it. That is what faith does, it gives us confidence.
