5 Effective and Simple Tips for working from home

Starting around March 2020, the major part of the world started working from home. Pandemic happened and companies and organizations had no other option than to manage their teams in a remote setting.

The transition was not easy for both parties. They had their ups and downs and many companies started gaining an advantage over their employees by asking them to work overtime. I have seen employees losing their cool, and went to a depression state as they didn’t know how to tackle this.

This was also the time many people lost their job and a few tried to set their own online businesses, by providing their services in freelance mode. We now have many businesses starting and scaling from a remote village or town, with just a laptop and internet.

We still don’t know when the covid will leave us for good, and many companies have given the option of working from home for their employees. So, if you are a person working remotely or if you are looking for a remote-based job, or even better if you are a freelancer, then this blog post is just for you.

As an introvert, there is nothing that can make me happy like a remote job. I like to have controlled working hours and staying in my workspace is Disney land for me. But not everyone is like me, and we are facing some unique challenges because of the varied personalities we have. Lifestyle changes and mood swings are also a trigger when it comes to working from home situations.

The most common challenges we face are, when to work, when to stop working, what to do while working, where to work and how to manage personal life and responsibilities while working, how to stay healthy.

I hear you, I have 5 simple but effective tips that will make your work from home a better experience.

Let’s dive into the article now.

1. Have a dedicated workspace

At the office we have a dedicated desk and space for work, when it comes to home or any remote location, we may not have it. Working from bed just after we wake up is not the right way. You may feel sleepy and not productive.

Try to set up a small corner of your home for work. This can be very simple with just a small table and essentials like a laptop, water bottle, and a pen stand. This minimal set-up will not distract you while working and you can have all the essentials in one place.

If you are a bookworm like me, try having a book on the table. This will ensure that you read a few pages while taking a small break instead of mindless scrolling on phone.

2. Maintain working hours and block your time for tasks

I can’t stress enough on this particular point. Our work and meeting will be starting at a particular time, so plan your day around it. Wake up at least 2 hours before you start your work and try to follow some morning routine,

The routine can be as simple as meditating for 5 minutes, a simple home workout session for 15-20 minutes, some time for yourself. You can also read a book or learn a course to upskill yourself.

Don’t include too many things in your routine, keep it simple and effective. 2 to 3 habits that might help you in your journey is all you need to kickstart your workday.

Try to block all these tasks in your calendar, like your working time, time for morning and evening routine, break time. This will really help you stay on track and take action without worrying or thinking too much.

3. Take regular breaks

While working at home, most people feel like they are on a break most of the time. But that is hardly the case. Because we are staying in-home, we are working more hours, and often forgetting to take breaks in between a long workday.

Try to take a break at least after an hour of work. During this break one thing you should refrain from doing is, checking your mobile. Instead, try getting up, walk for some time, go to your kitchen to drink some water, maybe have a small snack of nuts or fruits.

This way you are also being active and staying away from your phone. This small break will energize you for the next couple of hours to work without any distractions.

4. Get some sunlight

Most of us are waking up on time before work and just logging in. This is such a bad habit to have. You don’t have to wake up at 5 am if you don’t want to, but waking up just 5 mins before office time is not good.

Try waking up an hour or two early and you will be having all the time in the world to spend that time for yourself. Go to your terrace or at least out of your house to get some natural light and air. Let that morning sunlight soak in you for some time and you will already have a better start to the day.

5. Follow a healthy diet and stay hydrated

This can be the most difficult part, especially for all those who are staying alone. But I got you covered. You just have to start meal prepping.

Just spend 20-30 minutes in your day to plan your meal including snacks for the entire week and you are all set.

Now the chances of you binge eating or ordering some random junk food will be reduced because you know what you have to prepare.

You just have to go to your nearby grocery store to get your essentials or even better order using any grocery delivery app. Your work is simple now, and also ensures that you eat healthily.

Now that you know these small tips to have a better productive workday, I know you can start working on all of them at the same time. Take your time, figure where you are lagging behind and which one habit will help you have a better day. Try inculcating that habit and you are all set.
